Why Fort Worth Homeowners Choose Hobbs for Furnace Installation
Texas winters are mild, but when temperatures drop, you need a furnace that heats reliably and efficiently. A new furnace installation is one of the smartest investments you can make — modern units are 90%+ efficient compared to older systems that waste 15–20% of fuel up the chimney. Hobbs Heating and Air has installed heating systems for Fort Worth families since 2007, and we understand what it takes to size, select, and commission equipment that delivers warmth for 15+ years.
Ready for a New Furnace?
A furnace installation begins with a site visit to assess your home’s heating needs, review your current system, and discuss equipment options. We’ll calculate your home’s heat loss, recommend appropriate AFUE efficiency levels, explain operational costs, and provide a detailed quote with warranty information — all at no charge.

817-822-9180How We Install Your New Furnace
Our installation process follows Armstrong specifications, manufacturer guidelines, and all applicable Fort Worth heating codes. Here’s what to expect:
We arrive early to inspect your current setup: furnace location, existing ductwork, gas line routing, venting path, electrical panel capacity, and thermostat location. We identify any issues that would complicate installation — inadequate gas line size, venting obstruction, electrical panel issues — and discuss solutions with you upfront. If your home needs upgraded gas lines, venting work, or panel capacity, we’ll quote those additions before we start so there are no surprises.
Your new furnace arrives and we stage it in the installation area. We walk you through the equipment: AFUE efficiency rating, capacity, noise levels, controls, warranty coverage, and what to expect during operation (ignition clicks, fan noise, ductwork expansion sounds are all normal). We answer any questions about the system you’re about to live with for the next 15+ years. This isn’t a fast handoff; we ensure you’re comfortable with the equipment.
We safely disconnect and remove your existing furnace, carefully handle any refrigerant lines or heating fluid if applicable, and haul away the old unit. We inspect the furnace location for debris, rust, or damage and clean the area thoroughly. The removal is clean, and we leave you with a workspace ready for the new installation. All old equipment is disposed of per environmental regulations.
If your home’s existing gas line is undersized or improperly routed, we install new black iron pipe, CSST tubing, or copper line per local code. We size the line to match your furnace’s BTU demand and test pressure to confirm no leaks (all connections are tested with soapy water and verified for zero leakage). Once confirmed safe, we connect the furnace to the supply line and confirm adequate gas pressure at the furnace inlet.
We install or upgrade venting to safely exhaust combustion gases outside — typically through your roof or side wall with proper termination cap to prevent backdraft. We run the flue pipe from the furnace to the vent outlet, ensuring proper pitch and no obstructions. Once venting is in place, we perform draft tests to confirm air flows safely out and no exhaust back-drafts into your home (critical for carbon monoxide safety).
We connect the furnace to your electrical panel with a properly sized breaker and disconnect switch per code. We wire the thermostat to the furnace control board (or upgrade your thermostat if the old one is incompatible). We test all electrical connections and confirm the thermostat is communicating with the furnace control board. If you want a programmable or smart thermostat, we can install and program it at this stage.
Now comes the critical moment: we run through the complete startup sequence. We check ignition (electronic ignition should light cleanly), verify the blower runs, measure burner gas pressure, analyze flue gas temperature and combustion efficiency, test the limit switch (safety control that shuts off if temperature gets too high), and verify the thermostat cycles correctly. We document all readings and confirm everything operates within manufacturer specs. Only after full verification do we complete this step.
You get a complete tour of your new furnace: thermostat operation, filter replacement schedule, when to expect annual maintenance, what’s covered under warranty, and what to do if something unusual happens. We activate your manufacturer warranty (which requires professional installation documentation — ours comes with that proof). We provide you with operating manuals, warranty cards, and a recommendation to schedule your first maintenance visit in the fall before heating season. If anything seems odd in the first week (strange noise, uneven heating), you call us and we troubleshoot at no extra charge.

FAQs About Furnace Installation
AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency) measures what percentage of fuel gets converted to heat. 80% AFUE is the legal minimum, 90–95% is mid-efficiency with strong payback, and 95%+ condensing furnaces are highest efficiency. A 90% AFUE furnace costs more upfront but typically pays for itself through lower gas bills within 5–7 years. Most Fort Worth homeowners find 90–95% AFUE the best balance of efficiency and cost.
We perform a heat loss calculation measuring your home’s square footage, insulation quality, window area, air leakage, and climate zone to determine exact heating capacity (measured in BTUs) needed. Oversizing wastes money and causes short cycling (frequent on/off) that wears the system out. Undersizing means your furnace runs constantly and can’t reach desired temperature on the coldest days. We get the size exactly right during your free estimate.
Usually yes. Old ductwork often works fine, but we’ll inspect it for leaks, blockages, and sizing issues. If ducts are leaky or undersized, you have options: seal and insulate existing ducts, replace sections that are damaged, or install a new ductwork system. We’ll discuss costs and benefits during your estimate. Many older Fort Worth homes benefit from duct sealing when they get a new furnace.
Most installations take one full day — 8 to 12 hours depending on complexity. Gas line work, venting installation, or ductwork upgrades can add another day. Homes with difficult roof access or complicated gas routing take longer. We’ll provide an honest timeline during your estimate so you can plan accordingly.
Yes. Gas furnace installations require a permit, inspection, and approval from the city or gas utility. We handle the permit application, coordinate the inspection, and ensure code compliance. Permit costs are included in our installation quote. Skipping the permit creates problems when you sell the home or file a heating system insurance claim.
Most new furnaces include a 10-year warranty on the heat exchanger (the critical component), 5 years on parts, and lifetime on the cabinet. Hobbs guarantees our installation labor for 2 years. Some customers choose extended warranties for additional peace of mind. We’ll review all warranty options and help you decide what makes sense for your situation.
Modern furnaces are generally quieter and include variable-speed blowers that ramp up and down smoothly (older furnaces ran at constant full speed). Variable-speed furnaces are especially quiet because they don’t blast full-speed airflow into ducts. We’ll discuss noise levels during your estimate and can show you decibel ratings if that’s a concern.
A gas furnace burns natural gas to produce heat — efficient for heating-heavy climates. A heat pump uses electricity to move heat from outside air (or ground) into your home — efficient year-round if you also need air conditioning. In Texas, many homeowners use gas furnaces for winter heat and separate AC systems for summer cooling. Heat pumps are becoming popular as an all-in-one heating/cooling solution.
Standard furnaces (80–92% AFUE) exhaust hot flue gas up the chimney, wasting that heat. High-efficiency condensing furnaces (95%+ AFUE) extract that heat by condensing the flue gas — recovering 10–20% more energy from each unit of fuel. The tradeoff: condensing furnaces are more expensive upfront and require upgraded venting (PVC pipe instead of metal), but they deliver lower gas bills year after year.
Not always — if your old thermostat is compatible, we can keep it. But a modern programmable thermostat works better with new furnaces and saves energy by automatically lowering temperature when you’re away or asleep. Smartphone-controlled smart thermostats are increasingly popular in Fort Worth. We can install a new thermostat at the same time or wait until later — your choice.
